Dwarf Fortress Community Game - The Next Generation

Owing to the destruction of our previous fort a new, hopefully longer lasting, fort has been begun.  So begins the chronicles.

Diary of Monom Medtobashas, Miner – The First Spring at Dishmab Stigaz

-We finally arrived at our the site of what is to be our new fortress. It's bloody freezing. All the water is frozen, and I think the area might be haunted. Fath said we were being watched as we set up our makeshift camp by the side of the mountain, but I didn't see anyone.

-Our first priority is to get ourselves a nice dank cave set up. We can't stay out in this cold for too long, we'll freeze to death.

-Luckily the water defrosted pretty quickly, before we even finished out cave! At least we won't die of thirst.

-What a turn up for the books! It seems the mountain we've chosen to make our home is literally heaving with Felsite! Excellent! I'd heard tell of fledgling fortresses built upon marshes where stone was thin on the ground, thank goodness we aren't one of them!

-A slight problem with a mountain made out of stone – you can't plant seeds in stone. I've managed to designate a small area on the ground floor, by our entrance, that should function well enough for a plump helmet farm. We can always branch out into more exotic crops later on, if this farm survives that is.

-Some Dwarven braintrust has been keeping stone in the food stores. I remedied this as soon as I could, of course, but I'm worried as to which Dwarf seems to think that stones make a good snack.

-Being the only Dwarf capable of mining is a tiring responsibility. I fell asleep today, whilst carving out the new store rooms. Once these are done I can get to work on our sleeping quarters, hopefully. So tired!

-The store rooms are more or less finished now. I had to map out one more than I had envisioned, for the weapons. Eventually I would like to set up the Dishmab Particulars, a useful Dwarven military/police force. I'd like to base them on the surface, so they have less space to travel if any Goblins get uppity with us. Now is not the time to be thinking of this, though. That can wait until after we've settled in.

-I've started carving out some bedrooms for us trailblazers, because we deserve them, and I've even decided to build a trade hall. The idea being we can fill the hall with workshops and whatnot, but still have a nice social atmosphere. Of course there are a couple of workshops that just couldn't wait, namely the Carpenters, Fishery and the currently underused Butchers. The farm is finally producing some tasty mushrooms for us to eat, so no danger of starvation. I fear that with all the digging I have to do, however, I don't have enough time to deal with the other problems of the fortress. I will have to hand over leadership, at least for now, to someone with more time to devote to the nuances of fortress management.
