Showdown LAN 2008

I went to Coventry with Steve yesterday to meet some friends at Stoneleigh Park convention center where they were hosting day one of the PC GAMER Showdown, a BYOC LAN event and games exhibition.

The tournaments didn't interest us, we were there for the exhibition and so we immediately joined the queue for Left 4 Dead

Ahh, that was great. Now what next? After laughing at Too Human for a bit and checking out Mirror's Edge and Dead Space we sat down for free Rustlers. Having eaten, we decided that it would be nice to meet the RPS writers so I used the staff wristband I'd found on the floor to get in to the BYOC area and find Kieron and John.

Being lovely people, they came out of the tournament zone to say hello to everyone and had a good chat with us. Then we built a Darwinian warzone.

Lovely. The rest of the day was spent alternately playing L4D or Dead Space, eating Rustlers, chatting with various PCG writers (Ross Atherton, Tim Edwards, Craig Pearson and Graham Smith) and finally, as the night drew to it's close, the panel game "Never Mind The Game, Cocks" (see what they did there?) which saw Graham Smith, Chet Faliszek and Kieron Gillen squaring off against Paul Barnett, John Walker and Craig Pearson while Tim Edwards fiddled with computers behind the scenes and Ross Atherton strode about the stage being entertaining.

And that was that. We had a fantastic time and met a lot of cool people. Hopefully next year more of our RPS chums will be able to join us!
